An arm lift (brachioplasty) is a procedure that reduces excess skin and fat from the upper arm
Brachioplasty, also known as “Arm lift”, is a surgical procedure that reduces excess skin and fat from the upper arm, resulting in smoother skin, more contoured and toned appearance. Ageing, sun damage and extreme weight loss can contribute to sagging and excess skin. Therefore, this surgery should be done when patients have reached their weight goal, with significant skin excess.
In this procedure, the excess, flabby skin is removed from the upper arm. The remaining skin and underlying supportive tissue are tightened, resulting in a more toned and contoured appearance. The incision (cut) length depends on the amount and location of excess skin that needs to be removed and usually extends from the under-arm or armpit to different lengths towards the elbow.
Minimal Incision Brachioplasty: the cut is placed under the arm, allowing easy cover-up of the scar. This technique can be done when there is sufficient skin elasticity and minimal excess skin.
Extended Brachioplasty: in which the cut starts from above the elbow and continues along the upper arm onto the armpit then to the chest wall ( L-shape). This technique can be used where there is a significant amount of saggy skin in the upper arm and along the chest wall. The incision will be placed on the inside of the arm, which is the preferred position as it hides the scar better when arms are against the body.
Liposuction: is usually used on its own or in conjunction with an arm lift to reduce the excess fatty tissue from under and outer arm areas.
